Pupil Attendance
Stockwell Primary School is committed to its vision to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all its children. If this commitment is to succeed, good pupil attendance and punctuality are vital. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their child attends school each day and on time.
Each child has their own individual registration certificate which is regularly monitored by the attendance officer. Satisfactory attendance is 95%. Absence below 90% is a cause for concern and will result in letters from the school and a panel meeting with the school attendance and punctuality governor.
The school bell is rung at 8:50 and registers are taken at 9:00. Children arriving at school after 9.00 must report to the school office and will be recorded as late in the register. Action will be taken by the school should a child regularly arrive after 9:00. This includes the implementation of fixed penalty notices.
If your child is ill you must:
- Ring the school office on the first day of absence and each subsequent day after.
- Or you can send a message via the school website on the contact page. There is an option to ‘Report a child’s absence.’
- Present evidence of a child’s sickness following a third day of absence, for example a doctor’s certificate, appointment card, GP letter or prescription certificate.
Appointments during the school day are discouraged. If such an appointment is unavoidable, then please present documentation to the school office so that registers can be completed accurately.
Holidays during term time will not be authorised and Stockwell Primary School follows Lambeth’s policy of implementing fixed penalty notices for such instances.
Children at Stockwell who have 100% attendance and punctuality will be celebrated with termly attendance and punctuality assemblies in which certificates and prizes are awarded. The classes with the highest percentage of attendance in each Key Stage – Foundation, KS1, Lower KS2, Upper KS2 – for the week receive an ‘Attendance Cup’. Children with 100% attendance, without lateness, each week receive a gold sticker. At the end of Terms 2, 4, & 6, children with 100% receive a metal bronze, silver, or gold badge.
Research shows that good attendance and punctuality are vital to ensure that children are given the opportunity to meet their full potential. Please support your child and ensure that they come to school every day on time.
Our school target for attendance for the academic year is 95%. This is in harmony with the Government and Local Authority’s guidance.
