Low Cost/No Cost Family Fun in London – Part 2

Enjoy a family day out at the National Maritime Museum and Caribbean Social Forum with a day celebrating Black history and culture – includes special guests, including Baroness Floella Benjamin, artists, musicians and more. Please note there will be steel pan drumming at the entrances to the Museum and live performances inside the Museum.  If you struggle with loud noises, you can borrow ear defenders from our Welcome desk or ask staff to direct you to a quieter area. British Museum – Impossible Images; Ancient Egypt FREE

Thursday 13th  April 10am – 4pm in the Samsung Digital Discovery Centre Design a mask inspired by objects from ancient Egypt in this free, drop-in event. Discover headpieces from ancient Egypt, then use tablets to create your own striking design, using different colours to convey your family’s personality. You can then print your finished mask to take home and wear. Book a free timed ticket to enter the Museum that will allow you to explore the permanent collection afterwards. Friday 14th  April, 10am – 4pm in the Great Court Create an Egyptian-themed family photo with a little green screen magic in this free, drop-in event. Develop your photo editing skills and use our green screen to create a picture of your family interacting with fascinating ancient Egyptian objects from the collection. National Gallery Family Creative Workshop – FREE

Work with artist Dr Sadegh Aleahmad to explore, play and reflect on ideas inspired by the free exhibition, ‘Nalini  Malani: My Reality is Different‘.

See paintings in a different way during morning sessions, through play with mirrors and experiments with drawing techniques or transform your sketches into 3D drawings to cast performing shadows in afternoon sessions.

As this event is limited in capacity, other resources and drawing materials will also be available in Room 30 for you to pick up and to help you explore the National Gallery. This event is available on a first come, first served basis through a sign-up sheet process in Room 30 from 11am. Although this event does not require online booking in advance, you will need to book a free Gallery entry ticket to gain admission to the National Gallery. Each adult and child over the age of 12 months requires a ticket. We encourage you to book ahead of your visit.
